Stephen Langtry – Storyteller

About Me

I am a writer, based in Cape Town.

I grew up in Hanover Park, Cape Town. Living in a Coloured community during apartheid, I developed an awareness of the importance of social justice. From a high school on the Cape Flats, I went to the University of Cape Town, where I completed my tertiary education.

In addition to voluntary work with various non-profit organisations, I also worked full-time in the higher education sector and the public service. I have more than 12 years’ experience in administration at four different South African higher education institutions, and 11 years’ senior management experience in the public service.

Work and personal commitments have allowed me to travel through several other African countries as well as to North America and Europe. After having lived and worked in two other South African provinces, I returned to the Western Cape in 2016.

My areas of interests include youth development, social justice and human rights. I am an Ambassador for Running for Pads.

My Services

Writing: The generation of original material through interviews and research. This includes but is not limited to articles, presentations, annual and other reports, essays, websites, conference and meeting minutes and reports, and promotional material.

Ghostwriting: Helping others convey their message in their own voice. I write books, articles and other written work for someone else who is the named author.

Speech Writing: The practice of writing compelling speeches for different occasions and with varying content for other people.

Content Editing: The reworking of existing written material to suit a particular publication or audience. Clarifying or reorganizing a document for content, structure, style, length and level. This may involve rewriting and negotiating changes with the author.

Copy Editing: The language editing of existing written material. Preparing documents for distribution or publication through clarifying meaning, eliminating jargon, polishing language by editing for grammar, usage, spelling, punctuation and other mechanics of style; and checking for consistency of mechanics and for internal consistency of facts.
